Whether on the fireground or working around the station, there’s no such thing as “downtime” for firefighters. The good news is, apparel made with DuPont™ Nomex® fibers helps provide the reliable protection firefighters need against on-the-job hazards.
Protection
Nomex® fibers offer inherent protection against flames and extreme heat and will not melt, drip or support combustion. Stationwear made with Nomex® is compliant with NFPA 1975. We test garments made with Nomex® using our Thermo-Man® thermal burn injury evaluation system. Compared to 100% cotton, garments made with Nomex® fiber reduce the predicted burn injury by 50% when exposed to a three-second flame.
Comfort
Garments made with Nomex® fiber are lightweight and breathable compared with flame-retardant treated (FRT) cotton garments. They help reduce the threat of heat stress, which can cause fatigue, disorientation and heat exhaustion.
Cost effectiveness
Stationwear made with Nomex® also addresses the need for durable, cost-effective protective apparel. Unlike flame-retardant (FRT) treated cotton garments, garments made with Nomex® can be washed up to 125 times without sacrificing performance, so you can get more wear out of them. The average wear life of Nomex® stationwear is about five years—versus one for flame-retardant (FRT) treated cotton—making it an affordable choice. What’s more, garments made with Nomex® don’t need to be ironed to maintain a crisp, professional look.
Stationwear made with Nomex® is ready to answer the call at any time. Just like you.
